Exaltations and Thema Mundi

 An excerpt from CCAG, Book 5, Part 2, pages 133-134 of unknown Byzantine Astrologer

.. And Saturn was found at the Ypogeio, at the centre of Underworld. The Place of fathers and the darkness. In opposition to the Sun and square to Jupiter and Mars.

Jupiter is in Cancer, the horoscopic centre and very fertile. In square to Saturn and Sun and in opposition to Mars, trine to Venus and sextile to Moon. 

Mars is in the west centre, in Capricorn, a barren sign, in opposition to Jupiter and square to Sun and Saturn.

Sun is in Aries, at the MC Centre, in a very bright and prominent Place, in opposition to the darkest Saturn, in square to Jupiter and Mars and with no aspect to Moon, Venus and Mercury.

Venus is in Pisces, in the 9th Place and  Decline (Apoklima) of the MC with Mercury (for some reason, the writer puts Mercury's exaltation in Pisces at the beggining and later he says that Mercury's exaltation is in Virgo), in a hardworking and prophetic Place, in trine to Jupiter, sextile to Mars and Moon and with no aspect to Saturn and Sun.

Moon is in Place of Agathodaimon, succedent (Epanafora) of the Sun. In sextile to Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, trine to Mars and with no aspect to Sun and Saturn.

And from these, aspects were invented. 

.. Later, Virgo became the Ypsoma (exaltation) of Mercury, in opposition to Mercury's fall in Pisces. And all the planets's exaltations are in opposition to their falls. So, Saturn falls in Aries, Sun falls in Libra, Jupiter falls in Capricorn, Venus in Virgo, Mercury in Pisces.

Because Sun is very bright and Lord, Saturn is very dark and servant, where is the exaltation of the light and the Lord, there is the fall of the darkness and the servant. Where is the fall of the light and the Lord, there is the exaltation of the darkness and the servant. 

Jupiter is a naive, peacefull and fair. Mars is a tyrant, warrior and loves the battles.Where is the exaltation of justice and peace, there is the fall the unfair and the war. Where is the fall of the injustice and the war, there is the exaltation of justice and peace.

Venus is the star of desires and pleasure. Mercury is the star of wisdom, speach, voting and studies. Where is the exaltation of Aphrodisia, pleasure and waste, there is the fall of wisdom and mercurian arts. Where is the exaltation of wisdom, is the fall of Aphrodisian desires.

The Moon communicates with all the planets and it's the Fortune. Where is the exaltation of Tyche (Fortune) , no one falls. Where is the fall of Tyche, no one is in exaltation.
